Are you falling asleep at Zoom sessions thanks to Co-Vid?

Updated: Apr 25, 2020

Here is some notes to keep your mind and body active during drawn out zoom sessions

How to Stay Active and Alert During Long Zoom Sessions

THE SITUATION

Zoom sessions are all the rage right now especially with the social distancing thanks to Co-Vid. This is just another invitation for us to sit down in front of a computer and either be bored or let our muscles decompose. Most people in America are not getting enough exercise or sit at a desk for the majority of the day and the Co-Vid is not helping.

DID YOU KNOW THAT:

-An hour of exercise daily is not enough; we should at least get up

every thirty minutes to an hour to help circulation and focus.

-Sitting for too long can cause a whole bunch of problems like poor posture, tightness (especially in your hip, weakness and atrophy of muscles, decreased circulation and cardio stamina, increased risk for depression, potentially raising the risk of diabetes and obesity.

-When we don’t move as much, we don’t focus as easily and can nod off

HERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO TO STAY ACTIVE AND ALERT DURING LONG ZOOM SESSIONS.

1. Leg lifts under your desk

2. Play with a pen of stress ball to keep your attention focused.

3. Do some stretches at your desk. For example, your shoulders.

4. Find a photo and put it somewhere where your eyes can see it. Every fifth teen minutes or so look at the picture and

find something new with it.

5. If you get a break to use the restroom, go to the farther one in your house to move more.

6. If you get a break during the session, do some physical activity to get your circulation going and focus back, like some jumping jacks, push-ups, squats, wall sit, triceps dips, the list is endless. You could even put on some music and dance to a song. Just remember to mute yourself on your zoom call.

IF YOU ARE LEADING A ZOOM CALL:

-Set a timer every 20-30 minutes and have everybody get up and lead them through some stretches and exercise (everyone will be so much more engaged after)

-Have handouts or links that others can look at to make it easier to follow

-Remind everyone to stay active at the end of the call and make sure they are taking care of themselves.

THE POINT IS KEEP ACTIVE ON THESE ZOOM CALLS TO STAY HEALTHY WITH YOUR BODY AND YOUR MIND.

Remember during these hard times to do things that bring you joy and keep your mind with some self care like

-Meditation

-Calling a friend

-Doing a spa night for yourself.

-Go out in nature (if you can)
